Play Online Poker
The first stage of the revamped election process for the Poker of Hall of Fame, with Harrah’s Entertainment and the World Series of Poker announcing the top ten votegetters for this year’s election in a press conference on Thursday. (Photo shows 2008 inductee Dewey Tomko receiving his award from WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack.) This year marked the first time that all poker players were able to submit nominations for induction, via an online nomination process at worldseriesofpoker.com. The online nomination period stretched for five weeks during the early portion of the 2009 WSOP, from May 26 – July 2.

The top ten nominees, in alphabetical order:

• Tom Dwan
• Barry Greenstein
• Dan Harrington
• Phil Ivey
• Tom McEvoy
• Men Nguyen
• Scotty Nguyen
• Daniel Negreanu
• Erik Seidel
• Mike Sexton

Advertisement
In the press conference, held as part of the WSOP’s annual Media Day at Café Martorano at the Rio, WSOP Commissioner noted that 41 eligible people had received multiple nominations. Others who received nominations were Patrik Antonius, Humberto Brenes, Mike Caro, Norman Chad, Allen Cunningham, Ivan Demidov, Eric Drache, Annie Duke, John Duthie, Sam Farha, Chris Ferguson, Ted Forrest, Andy Glazer, Bertrand Grospellier, Gus Hansen, Jennifer Harman-Traniello, Jay Heimowitz, Rob Hollink, Jesper Hougaard, Phil Laak, Howard Lederer, Marcel Luske, Mike Matusow, Chris Moneymaker, Luca Pagano, Greg Raymer, Matt Savage and David Sklansky. Three already-inducted Poker HoF members also received multiple (though irrelevant) nominations: Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth and Stu Ungar.

When asked about whether the online nomination process was a success, Pollack enthusiastic asserted that it was a “quantum leap forward” for the Poker Hall of Fame, and as promised, “more people were involved in the Hall of Fame selection process.”

While the players noted here received the most online nominations, they do not necessarily represent the official list of finalists for the 2009 Hall of Fame. From here the process moves to a vetting process by the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council, who will select the final list of candidates. From there the list of finalists moves to voting, with the election done by a 30-person panel – the 15 currently living Hall of Fame members and 15-person media panel. Criteria for election are as follows:

• A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition;
• Played for high stakes;
• Played well, gaining the respect of players;
• Stood the test of time;
• Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.

The election process continues through the late summer and fall, with this year’s inductees, once determined, enshrined in a ceremony as part of the World Series of Poker Main Event festivities this November.

• 5 WSOP bracelets
• More than $ 7 million in tournament winnings

If he owes his nickname to his resemblance to Jesus, “Chris Ferguson is still a God of poker as evidenced by its 5 bracelets and 57 WSOP seats to be paid. World champion in 2000 before the dreaded TJ Cloutier, Chris Ferguson is best known for its excellent computing capabilities and his knowledge of game theory. But Ferguson is a very complete player who is not content to shine in No Limit Hold’em. After his victory at the Main Event in 2000, he won his second bracelet a year later in Omaha Hi-Lo Eight or better, a variant found difficult. In 2003, he continues to demonstrate his talent by winning no less than 2 bracelets in Omaha Hi-Lo Split Limit Hold’em / Seven Card Stud! Thereafter, he recorded many places paid and final tables in almost all variations of poker. Overall, earnings in tournaments beyond the $ 7.5 million.

Appreciated for his kindness and always dignified attitude, Chris Ferguson is a player well known and highly respected circuit. Around the world, many fans of the man with a hat and beard cowboy. Some even had the chance to face on the internet where he completed a challenge that was to earn $ 10,000 from $ 0 in 2 years! Ferguson is currently further developing an algorithm for a room that poker game, but it continues to appear at the tables to the delight of the audience … and the greatest fear of his enemies! Play Online Poker
The second day of the HORSE event, considered by some professionals as the true world championship of poker, just ended at the Rio in Las Vegas. The chipleader at the end of this Day 2 is Ray Dehkharghani with 643,000 chips in front of him.

3 The day begins with 53 players, here are the top 5:

Ray Dehkharghani – 643,000
Gus Hansen – 540,000
Erik Sagstrom – 500,000
Matt Glantz – 475,000
Hasan Habib – 440,000

First observation, The Great Dane, who has not participated in many tournaments since the beginning of the 40th World Series of Poker, is in shape. Second in chips, we know his talent and experience, so it can stay the course during the 3rd day to be in good position to finish in the final table.

Second observation, Matt Glantz is “new” fourth! Why “again”? Last year the U.S. was 4th off, there is a certain regularity in Matt Glantz who never realized his perfs by a bracelet … yet!

Latter finding concerning the top 5, the chipleader of the first day stayed the course and remains well positioned. Hasan Habib has remained steady during the Day 2!

Play Online Poker
And French in all this? We unfortunately lost Bruno Fitoussi, vice world champion of HORSE in 2007. Patrick Bueno, an expert in the field, remains in the race with 215,000 carpet, it is the first French on this tournament. Behind him there is David Benyamine with 130,000 in chips, and in very bad position with 35,000 Fabrice Soulier. Fabsoul was recovered during the day and then fell to become the short stack of the tournament. We must not lose hope!

Finally, the title holder, Scotty Nguyen, is also well placed with 370,000. He is currently in the top 15! Some bulk chipcounts:

Todd Brunson – 380,000
Tony G – 348000
Patrick Antonius – 330,000
Ville Wahlbeck – 300,000
Doyle Brunson – 245,000
Phil Ivey – 242,000
Erik Seidel – 205,000
Barry Greenstein – 200,000
Chris Ferguson – 185,000

We therefore find the heavy and sharks for the resumption of Day 3!

If you’ve never played Texas Hold’em before, Welcome! You’ve come to the right spot to learn to play poker. Anyone can learn how to play Texas Holdem poker in only a few minutes and enjoy the game as much as a seasoned professional. However mastering the game takes many years of experience. This simple guide will layout the general rules and next time we’ll uncover the secrets to consistently making money playing Texas Hold’em on the internet.

Before the Game Starts:

First you must make and account on a poker website and deposit 50$.

My #1 Recommendation is Full Tilt Poker

My #2 Recommendation is Party Poker

Poker Supplies: A standard 52-card deck is a no brainer. It’s also very helpful to have enough poker chips to go around. This makes betting and stacking much easier than playing with actual coins. The last poker supply is not really a necessity but certainly makes the experience a little more authentic and that is a poker table.
center>
Play Online Poker
Determining the Blinds: The big blind and small blind is the amount of money that 2 players front before a hand is dealt. This ‘buy-in’ allows them to see the remaining number of hands until the dealer button makes it’s way around the table. In order to determine the blinds you all need to agree on a starting buy-in amount. Whatever you do, don’t play for free. If there is nothing at stake every starting hand will be played ruin the game for everyone, so pick a buy-in amount whether it’s $5, $10, or $20. If you’re starting with $20 then playing for $0.25 and $0.50 is a good starting point. As the night wears on these amounts can be adjusted.

Texas Holdem Rules

Post Blinds: The player directly to the dealers left will post the small blind (generally half the big blind) the player to his left will post the big blind. You should make sure the “pot’s right” before dealing to maintain some structure.

Deal Pocket Cards: Each player is dealt 2 cards face down starting with the player directly to the dealers left. These 2 cards are also known as hole cards.

Pre-Flop Bet: After everyone has checked out their pocket card they should determine whether to bet, call, or raise. Betting starts with the player left of the person who posted the big blind. Any bets placed should be equal to that of the big blind which in our case is $0.50. At this point the players have enough cards to form a 5 card poker hand.

Flop: After the “pot’s right” the dealer should discard the top card and flip the next 3 cards over. This is known as the flop.

Bet: Another round of betting starting with the player to the dealers left.

Turn: The top card is again discarded and 1 card is placed face up. This is known as the Turn card.

Bet: Another round of betting, however in most games the betting amount is doubled.

River: The dealer should then burn another card and flip over a final card known as the river card. There are now 5 community cards face-up on the table. Each player should make the best possible 5 card poker hand using all card in play.

Bet: A final betting round staring with the player left of the dealer.

Showdown: All players left in the hand must show their cards staring with the player left of the dealer. Any player that wishes to who can’t beat the previous hand showing may ‘muck’ their cards as not to reveal their poor choice of starting hand. The player with the highest 5 card poker hand wins the pot.

So you want to learn how to play poker? Well first off you’ll need an online poker account. We recommend you signup at Full Tilt Poker (use referal code JOOP28POKER ) and if you’ve got some confidence in what you’re doing deposit $50. If you’re new to poker hold off so you don’t end up losing that $50, still sign up just play for free for a while.

I’ve been playing poker online for about 3 years now. I’m certainly not a professional poker player but overall I win money consistently when playing Texas Holdem online, at Full Tilt Poker, or at poker night with my buddies. I’ve played poker at EPT Las Vegas Casino in Budapest. Believe it or not I started where you’re at today, I too wanted to learn to play poker. In total I’ve won $15800 playing online Texas Hold’em.

Topics covered in this Guide to Playing Poker

Obviously you’ll need to know the rules of several of the most popular games including Texas Hold’em, 5 Card Draw, 7 Card Stud, and Omaha Hi/Lo. There is one aspect of poker I’ve never experienced and that is video poker. By the end of guide you’ll learn to play poker better than the majority of people on the planet. We will also cover the different poker hand rankings one can receive while playing poker and the probability of playing these hands. I’ll teach you how to win playing Texas Hold’em. Not everyone is interested at winning at poker online. Some people want to be respected when playing poker at their home tournament. We’ll give you strategy and tips for winning these types of games as well. The only other place you can play this adrenaline filled game is at the block and mortar casinos. If you’ve never played in the casino you’re missing an entire new aspect to the game especially if you hope to take on the pros at the World Series of Poker or European Poker Tour.

Types of Poker

Holdem Poker is no doubt the most popular game played by poker enthusiasts. It was made popular by the WSOP being televised and hasn’t slowed down sense. It’s played by 2 – 10 players and the rules are simple to learn. The player receives 2 private cards and 5 community cards to make the best hand. The player with the highest hand and the showdown wins the pot. If you want to learn to play poker visit this page of the guide.

7 Card Stud is also quite popular. Each player receives 3 cards face down and 4 cards face up. You’ll then make the highest hand using a combination of five of their 7 total cards. Before each hand is dealt an ante is collected from each player and is added to the pot. Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo is a version of 7 Card Stud with the same exact rules, but each player will create the highest and lowest qualifying hand.

5 Card Draw is the oldest poker game but still one of the best. The game is played with 2 – 5 players. The hand starts with an ante which preceded by 2 betting rounds. Each player receives five cards face down and may return 2 cards to the dealer after the first betting round.

Omaha Hi/Lo is gaining popularity and is a game that is a nice distraction from the rigors of Texas Hold’em. It’s played with each player receiving 4 private cards and 5 community cards face-up. Each player creates the highest and lowest possible hand using any 2 of their private cards and any 3 of the community cards.
